The Gratitude Project
No child should stand alone and our wish is to connect human hearts through acts of gratitude.
The Gratitude Project connects human hearts by putting GRATITUDE into ACTION. The Gratitude Project is a project of Room Five Charity Foundation Inc..
The Gratitude Project aims to create support and ongoing relief to the community in Nkomazi (Mpumalanga Province, South Africa), with a focus on the Child Headed Households, which face very challenging circumstances, which including looking after their younger siblings and in certain cases also their aging grandparents..
A child-headed household (or CHH) is a family in which a minor (child or adolescent) has become the head of the household. CHH’s are most common in Africa, where the HIV/Aids epidemic has resulted in many cases both parents dying and leaving behind a family of orphans.
Oftentimes, the children start taking over their parents responsibilities before the last surviving parent has passed away, because the parent is sick or too weak to work. The eldest children often stop attending school and instead get a job to create income for the family.
The Gratitude Project has immediate goals of:
Raising awareness on the situation of Child Headed Households.
Raising $111,111 for the creation of a Care Center in Nkomazi, South Africa, to provide immediate and ongoing support to children of Child Headed Households.
Supporting the work of Mr. Hannes Pieters who will head the center.
Connecting you to the hearts & stories from around the globe.
